Returning to Broad Street for 1600 hrs.
Scotland Explorer departs from Aberdeen and heads north-west through Aberdeenshire and to Moray before stopping at our first destination. The Strathisla Distillery, originally founded in 1789, is Scotland’s oldest, continuously operating distillery. There is no better place to experience the age-old craft of whisky making at first hand. Many of the buildings have changed little from the old cobbled courtyard to the distinctive double pagodas, making it one of the most picturesque distilleries in Scotland. You will learn about single malt and blended whiskies and how the history of both are entwined, and of course experience the product for yourself!
From Strathisla, Scotland Explorer continues north to Fochabers, visiting the world famous Baxters of Speyside. Founded in 1868, Baxters has grown to be one of Scotland’s largest food producers, exporting its goods all over the world. Here you can take a step back in time and discover the history of Baxter in the old grocery shop.
The Baxters Highland Village offers a variety of speciality shops, stocked with a wide range of Baxters and Audrey Baxter’s range of food products, as well as wines and whiskies, speciality foods, clothing, cookware and gifts.
George Baxter's Cellar Shop stocks all of the Baxters food range, produced in the adjoining factory, as well as the popular Audrey Baxter range of speciality products. A wide choice of branded foods, sourced from around the world, is also available, including many wines and a fine range of whisky. A haven for the enthusiastic cook, Mrs Baxter's Cook Shop is packed full of practical items for the kitchen. A selection of fine clothing and accessories are on offer at the Coat and Swagger shop, whilst the Baxters Gift Shop provides a selection of decorative lifestyle items and gifts.
A trip to Baxters wouldn’t be complete without a visit to one of the restaurants, where a sample of delicious Scottish fayre is served, including Baxters famous soups, pancakes fresh from the griddle and home baked pastries, all in a relaxed and friendly environment.
From Baxters, we head east along the coast, passing Buckie and travelling through Banff before heading south through Aberdeenshire and on to Aberdeen.
