Come the winter, Edinburgh really does sparkle. Six weeks of festive celebration, featuring the very best in culture, shopping, food & drink, set against a backdrop of unrivalled beauty, make it the perfect Christmas destination. As well as the Big Wheel and Ice Rink in Princess Street Gardens, there are two Christmas Markets to visit.
Highland Village Christmas Market
From Scottish food treats to woolly hats and Scottish teddy bears, this market is eclectic, vibrant and fun. Scottish produce is on sale from a range of food producers and retailers including venison burgers from Well Hung and Tender, as well as candles, gifts, jewellery and quirky clothes. Beneath the Edinburgh Wheel and above the ice rink, the lovely location of this market makes Christmas shopping a real pleasure.
Traditional German Christmas Market
Christmas Markets have been a tradition since medieval times, and Edinburgh's German Christmas Market is provided by stallholders based in Frankfurt. The popular market is back as always, selling a mix of classic and contemporary gifts, as well as a range of German food and drink ideal for warming up the chilly bits. Tasty delights include hearty sausages, fried potato cakes, crepes and German beer, as well as the now famous Glühwein.
